Sonnet DX800RAID

Sonnet Technologies has unveiled the DX800RAID, an eight-bay SATA storage system with an integrated Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) expander that can be used to connect up to 16 individual eight-drive enclosures to a single RAID controller. The new system supports RAID 5 and RAID 6, protecting against data-loss if one or two drives fail. The company claims read speeds of up to 680MB per second and write speeds of up to 640MB per second.

A SCSI Enclosure Services 2.0 (SES) feature allows users to monitor the status of each drive, the power supply and temperature. The information can be accessed through utilities screens or viewed via LEDs on the enclosure.

The DX800RAID storage systems include the enclosure, eight Mac-formatted 3.5-inch hard drive modules, a Sonnet RAID controller card, two mini-SAS cables, a power cable and a software CD. A 6TB version can be obtained for $4500, while the 8TB package costs $5500. Customers can add a 4TB, 6TB, or 8TB expansion for $2700, $3200, or $4200, respectively.
