NVIDIA GT 300 Leak

NVIDIA's launch of the GTX 285 and 295 next month will be quickly followed up by a new generation card just weeks later, claim video card makers. The GTX 300 series will reportedly be launched sometime in the first quarter of 2009, or before the end of March. Most details of the first cards are unknown, though they will allegedly share the same 55 nanometer manufacturing process that will let the chipsets run faster and potentially cooler.

A change in the major version number has typically pointed to a significant architectural change in NVIDIA's graphics processing, though this change would most likely be minor in the near future. The company traditionally launches major revisions roughly every other year but has done so this year with the GTX 200 series.

In addition to word of the new chipset, the same sources also claim that the GTX 285 and 295 will run clock speeds approximately 10 to 15 percent faster than previous generation cards while dropping power consumption by a similar amount. For the 285, the speed boost would ramp it from 602MHz to between 662MHz and 692MHz.
