Samsung Pixon Seen for ATT

Samsung is bringing its eight-megapixel Pixon touchscreen cameraphone over to the US as an AT&T device, an FCC filing shows. The phone also known as the M8800 has shown up in agency testing with newly added support for HSPA-based 3G access over the 850MHz and 1,900MHz bands, revealing that the phone has been specifically modified to run on AT&T's network. Carrier branding and other changes aren't immediately visible.

Besides its extremely high-resolution camera with image stabilization, the Pixon is capable of recording video at a widescreen 720x480 and also carries FM radio, GPS mapping and a microSD slot for storage. The phone also uses Samsung's in-house TouchWiz interface for widget-like access to apps and quick information.

Release plans aren't known for the Pixon, though a presence at the FCC usually indicates that a device will be ready within a few months or less. [via Cellphone Signal]
