updated 04:30 pm EST, Mon December 15, 2008

PencilBot ESL 1, SnapTell

  • SerialBase ($2) is an app designed to work like the default Contacts app, but storing serial numbers as opposed to phone numbers. Aside from these it can record the likes of activation numbers, program websites and tech support e-mails. The information can then be exported to Mail and sent to a desktop for storage or as backup.

  • Reversi Sister ($3) is a boardgame for the iPhone and iPod touch that incorporates elements of anime with the classic game of Reversi. The title features two difficulty levels and three different voice options for a personal cheerleader. The cheerleader provides hints and encouragement throughout the game, but can be set to speak more or less frequently.

  • North Pole ($3) lets users display a Christmas-themed bobblehead on their iPhone or Touch. Character choices include Santa Claus, Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, each of which responds to device movements. The app also features Christmas music, played in the background. Kudit has announced that it will divert a portion of the profits from North Pole to benefit the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

  • PencilBot ESL 1 ($5) is designed to aid in the improvement of English skils through videos with interactive subtitles, tap-to-view keywords, and animated mini-games. Instructions can be presented in English, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Russian and Chinese (simplified or traditional). The app is available in three different colors, which represent a transition from easy (green) to more difficult (red) exercises.

  • SnapTell Explorer (free) is a tool that uses images taken on an iPhone to recognize the cover of any book, DVD, CD or videogame. The app then relies on the Internet to fetch ratings and a description, as well as links to Google, YouTube, Wikipedia, IMDb, eBay and more.
