MozyPro for Mac backup service goes public

updated 03:55 pm EST, Thu December 11, 2008

MozyPro for Mac online

Having recently completed a beta period, Mozy has announced the formal debut of MozyPro for Mac, its pro-level online backup service. The service is intended for businesses based on Mac computers, and automatically backs up desktops, servers and notebooks to protect against accidental data loss. Data is encrypted against theft, and managed from a web-based console.

In moving out of beta, the service has gained improved upload speeds, the ability to backup mounted network drives, and a simplified administration console. MozyPro for Mac supports the server and desktop versions of Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5, along with computers running Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Server. Mozy is charging $4 per month for each desktop or notebook license, and $7 a month for each server license; on top of this is a charge of 50 cents per gigabyte transferred.

    Go carefully

We (my company) tried Mozy and found it to be unreliable. You might want to look into Amazon's S3 service.

    Not reliable at all

and customer support is really, really bad. They lost my data and never got an explanation on what happened.

    Hmmm

I have not had this problem. I have tried Mozy home, and performed random file restores with no problem.
I have Mozy Pro on my work machine and random file/folder selections restore with no problem.

The development team as very professional and they were very responsive with their MozyPro beta test group, I understand.

    I'm just sayin'.
