LaCie ships new software
LaCie has introduced revamped RAID drives with noise-dampening from new partner Noctua, including the LaCie 4big Quadra and the LaCie 5big Network. LaCie also announced it will ship new software for its Hard Disk, Little Disk and Rugged Hard Disk Storage units.
LaCie's partnership with quiet cooling specialist Noctua brings the NF-P12 fan for cooling to the large, multi-disk units. The fan features Vortex-Control Notches and delivers a 15dB noise reduction. LaCie says the new noise signature is not just quieter, but more pleasing to the ear. The 4big Quadra is a four-bay tower offering RAID 0-5, with 2TB, 4TB and 6TB options priced at $850, $1300 and $1850. The 5Big Network is a five-bay RAID 5 or 6 tower with gigabit networking connections. It is available in 2.5TB, 5TB and 7.5TB sizes, priced at $900, $1400 and $1900.
LaCie's new software bundles are focused on back-ups and speed, specifically on USB 2.0 ports. Intego Back-up Assistant is included for the Mac, with Genie Backup Assistant is also available for PCs. LaCie Setup Assistant ships for both platforms, performing formatting duties. LaCie's USB Boost driver arrives with a promised 33-percent performance jump over the prior LaCie USB driver.
