iPhone apps: Hero of Sparta, Ivory Tiles, Fliq Notes

  • Hero of Sparta ($10) puts players in the shoes of King Argos, a Spartan hero who is unafraid of defying the gods themselves. The game features a virtual analogue stick for controlling movement and other actions are performed by using the touch screen. Players will face legions of enemies and some well known mythical creatures such as the Cyclops.

  • Ivory Tiles ($2) is a puzzle game that utilizes the tilt capabilities of the iPhone and iPod touch. The game features over 80 different levels that get progressively harder as a player moves along. The game also features soothing traditional Chinese music that plays in the background. The game also tracks progress such as personal high scores for each level.

  • Fliq Notes (free) allows users to create and organize notes and memos and then send them to other users on the same WiFi network. The notes can be sorted through by name, date and category making it easier to find a desired note and they can be sent to other iPhone/iPod touch users or to Mac/Windows users with the desktop version of Fliq.

  • Choose Your Own Adventure ($3) is a story where users can make choices that change the outcome of the story. Two different stories are included, "Return to Atlantis" and "Journey Under the Sea" both which feature original illustrations. The application also features a fully animated interface and a dark background mode for nighttime reading.

  • iRecorder (free) is a virtual instrument for the iPhone that attempts to simulate the experience of playing a real instrument. To make sound users blow into the iPhones microphone and then press fingerings on the virtual recorded displayed on the screen. To help with learning the screen displays watch pitch the current note being played which can help users familiarize themselves with the fingerings.
