Truphone adds support for inbound and non-Wi-Fi calls

updated 03:30 pm EST, Wed December 10, 2008

Truphone update

Truphone has added several new features to its VoIP application for the iPhone, including Truphone Anywhere functionality that allows users to make international phone calls across the internet, even while outside of Wi-Fi service. If an international number is dialed when an Internet connection is unavailable, the app will ask the user if the call should be routed through the Truphone service. Inbound calling is now supported, in any domestic or international Wi-Fi location.

The Anywhere service is designed for making international calls from the user's home country. The app dials a local server, which then connects the long-distance portion of the call across the Internet. The local servers are available in 33 countries.

Truphone can be downloaded from the App Store for free. Calls within and to 40 countries will incur a six-cent per minute fee when connecting to landlines, or a 30-cent per minute fee when dialing to mobile phones.
