8MP C905 passes FCC

Sony Ericsson's C905 handset is nearly ready to go on sale in the US, as it has recently passed through the FCC testing procedures. The sliding handset, due to be called the C905a and include the 850 and 1900MHz 3G data network bands used in North America, was first introduced this summer. Its most eye-catching feature is an 8.1-megapixel camera with a CMOS sensor. As such, it rivals the recently spotted Samsung handset due to ship in the near future to T-Mobile.

Users will interface with the C905a via a 2.4-inch, 240x320 screen and a D-pad, giving them access to the Internet either via the built-in antennas or Wi-Fi module along with assisted GPS functionality. Via the Wi-Fi link, the C905a will be capable of streaming media to DLNA-compatible home theater devices such as Sony's PlayStation 3. The handset will be capable of geotagging the photos captured by its high-end camera, which is also due to include image stabilization features, face detection for up to three faces and a 16x digital zoom. Users will also be capable of capturing video at resolutions of up to 320x240 at 30fps.

Media player functionality will be included with the C905a, as will an FM Radio with RDS. Multimedia files will be stored on the 160MB of internal memory or the included 2GB M2 memory card. Bluetooth support is integrated into the C905a.

The handset will be available in gold, silver or black, though no pricing information is yet available or a confirmation of which provider will carry the handset, though only AT&T supports the 850MHz 3G band in the US. [via Cellphonesignal]
