REALbasic R5 now available

REAL Software says it has added over 100 improvements to REALbasic 2008 Release 5, which is shipping today. New features in the release include the ability to print source code in color, and methods, properties and constants that can be duplicated. Users can now write tools for automating the application building process, and take advantage of a better auto-complete feature, which supports namespaces and uses icons to represent what is being selected from the list.

The development tool can compile code across Mac, PC and Linux platforms, and produces native executables, though the cross-platform features are part of the Professional Edition; the Personal Edition is limited to a single platform of choice. Professional also adds database server connectivity, database encryption, and other elements such as remote debugging, container controls and SSL support.

The Professional version of REALbasic 2008 Release 5 is $500, while Personal is $100. The software requires a Mac with a 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, along with Mac OS X 10.3. Mac OS X 10.4 and 2GB of RAM are recommended.
