Web Help Desk has announced a free version of its Help Desk technical support software for small businesses, government organizations and K-12 schools. The free edition contains no trial period, expiration dates or ads, and comes with free software upgrades for one year. Features of the software include two-way e-mail communication, the configuration of service-level agreements for e-mail alerts and reminders to staff, e-mail to ticket conversions, and a self-service and ticket-submission portal for customer support.
Other features offered with the program are ticket history and audit trails, the creation of graphical performance reports exported through spreadsheets or automated e-mail delivery, and the use of Active Directory and LDAP to enable login authentication and scheduled imports of customer data.
Web Help Desk is is compatible with Max OS X 10.4 or later, and available to download from the company’s website.

offer makes no sense
"free software upgrades for one year"
So, are they going to stop offering a free version one year from now? Or are they going to make it so if you've been using it for a year, you either need to stop upgrading or upgrade to their paid version?
