OCZ Throttle eSATA Drive

OCZ has opted for a unique alternative to traditional USB jump drives and launched the Throttle eSATA Drive. Although it includes a mini USB fallback option, the flash stick can use the extra bandwidth of eSATA through either a native port or add-in card to transfer at speeds more closely resembling hard drives: it can read at 90MB per second and write at 30MB per second. Users can store HD videos or other very speed-dependent content and play it back directly from the drive, OCZ says.

Like USB-only drives, the Throttle is entirely bus-powered and doesn't require any drivers to work with any operating system that supports the faster peripheral standard. OCZ hasn't supplied prices for its initial lineup but says the Throttle will come in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities and should be available soon.

    Not so unique

Well, Silicon Power actually has identical product (named "Silicon Power eSATA/USB SSD" I think).

    ExpressCard justification

Unique or not, something like this might actually justify adding an eSATA ExpressCard to my MackBook Pro.

    silly design

why not just make it the shape of 34 card and let us plug it directly into our expresscard slot.

Not everybody has a MacBook Pro to use Express34?

But being able to plug this into a tower to pull off or transfer or present video would be terrific. A Zip disk every second, amazing. I wonder how a striped array would behave. Solid state RAID 5!!

IMHO, this needs to be 64GB or higher to be really useful.
