Walmart 4GB iPhone?
Apple may be prepared to deliver a sharply discounted iPhone with Walmart in mind, rumors suggest. An anonymous source has indicated that Walmart stores may soon receive a $99 model, made with the tradeoff of a lower 4GB storage capacity. Apple and AT&T currently sell the iPhone for minimum of $199, and only in capacities of 8 or 16GB. The company will likely offer a 32GB edition sometime in the next year.
Apple also stopped the manufacturing of a 4GB device early into the production of the 2G iPhone, due to low demand. The phone was at least $399 at the time however, and it is generally believed that the target audience of a Walmart phone would be more concerned with price than maximum performance. Opening of iPhone sales to Walmart has been anticipated for some time, with the most recent information pointing to a December 28th launch date.

Yet no Apple resellers

I find it odd that you can't get iPhones from independent Apple Resellers. Seems to me, those guys are the ones that would actually take time to know the product they are selling. Still, Apple holds firm and says NO.

SD slot?

Why not just put enough memory for the OS and have an SD slot on the thing? There is a real Walmart style iPhone. Oh wait, that would mean you could upgrade an Apple product instead of buying a new model. Silly me.

Seriously? You guys are modding down someone for saying Apple should add an SD slot for expandability? As if that's a bad thing? Have you seen how cheap SD cards are now? You shouldn't have to pay $100 for 8GB which costs oh, $15-20 retail.
In a year when Apple is selling a 32GB iPhone for $300, all of us current owners will probably have to pay full price if we want to upgrade because we'll still be under our 2 year contracts.

Yes, cmoney, it doesn't matter what you suggest. If Apple has deemed something like a removable battery or expandability isn't an option worth having, it isn't an option worth having. Suggesting otherwise is cause for modding down!
And its probably the stockholders who are voting him down. They know that the Apple-lovers will stand in line to get the iPhone G3 model, even if all it does is add some more memory. Expandability hurts the bottom line!

The difference in RAM is an easy way to differentiate it. They could sell it with a lot more RAM but then they would cannibalize sales of higher end models. It is not like they are having trouble selling them now. If you want the extra memory, then get a Windows or Blackberry one. Newsflash: you can't get exactly what you want in a device - if you don't like Apple's offering there are other options but you are giving up the user interface.
It has always been more expensive for RAM on Apple products. Although even with Windows powered machines with much faster processors and more RAM I have always experienced as much slower. I used Windows for 6 years and the only thing mine did fast was crash fast. My mom first switched to the Mac before me when she asked how much it would cost for a shop to build a quality machine and I showed her that she would actually spend less on the Mac. I also paid as much for my Linux only PC then I did on a Mac that was much faster.
