HP adds 3G to Mini 1000, ships Vivienne Tam edition

HP on Thursday announced it is now offering the Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam edition netbook, which has been originally introduced as a concept. As the name implies, the 10.2-inch, 1024x600 LCD netbook's exterior was penned by clothing designer Vivienne Tam. Going on sale as promised earlier, the netbook sports Intel's 1.6GHz Atom CPU and 1GB of RAM. At the same time, buyers will have the option to outfit any Mini 1000 netbooks with a 3G broadband modules from HP, with the service provided by either AT&T or Verizon.

Buyers get a choice of hard drives, with either a 16GB solid-state drive or 4200RPM, 60GB PATA hard disk, though the latter is a $25 option. Either way, Windows XP will be preloaded onto the drive, along with Windows IE7, Media Player 11 and Microsoft Work 9. A built-in webcam allows users to have video chats. A choice of Wireless modules, one with Bluetooth support for $25, is offered.

A 3-cell battery powers the Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam netbook. The special-edition netbook is available now, with prices starting at nearly $700. The broadband module is available for the special-edition netbook and the rest of the Mini 1000 range, priced at $199.
