Zhiing update
ZOS communications on Tuesday launched Zhiing 1.1, the latest update to its location-based messaging application for the iPhone. Users can now send one message to multiple people. Recipients will also receive names instead of numbers, while the general speed and stability have been enhanced. The program combines browser plug-ins with SMS, allowing users to send directions from the browser to a mobile phone, or from one mobile device to another. Users click the Zhiing icon and enter a number, which sends a map and turn-by-turn directions to their location.
The map content is supported by iPhone, BlackBerry and Dash Express devices. Messages sent to non-supported cell phones will request that the recipient reply with their current address. The service then responds with turn-by-turn text directions.
The application is free to use, aside from any text or data fees applied by the mobile carriers. The applications do not work like a social network, the service can be used without logging-on or creating a profile.
Zhiing is available for the iPhone as a free download from iTunes. Browser plug-ins are also available at no cost for Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, Chrome and Flock.
