uTorrent Mac Beta official
The long-awaited uTorrent beta for Macs is out as of Wednesday, offering users of Intel-based Macs running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or newer the same low-memory footprint Windows users have enjoyed to date. Compared to the Windows version, however, the newly-released version is missing certain features, including an RSS downloader. Rumors of a Mac uTorrent release first surfaced in June of 2007, with an alpha version leaked back in September.
uTorrent has a historically strong reputation as a lightweight BitTorrent client with a minimalist user interface, and recently gained support for encrypting packets to prevent arbitrary throttling by certain Internet providers.
The beta software for Macs is now available to download for free, though uTorrent warns the very tiny client may contain serious bugs. As is typical of beta versions though, it hopes to improve it with feedback from troubleshooting users.
