Next PS3 price cut due in March?

PS3 Price Cut in March

Sony will be more aggressive on PlayStation 3 pricing early next year, an account of an alleged company briefing. The company's European president David Reeves has reportedly told staff that the firm will be "getting more competitive in price" in March 2009 and directly implies a price cut for the PS3 in his discussion. The drop is suspected as coming in time for the local launch of Sony's flagship shooter Killzone 2 and would be used to spur sales.

The extent of any potential cut is unknown, as is any indication of whether the drop will apply only to Europe or will also reach Japan and North America. In the UK, the console typically sells for about 300 ($452) after tax and is considered a relative success against the Xbox 360, which sells relatively poorly on the continent. The PS3 is nonetheless widely outsold by the Nintendo Wii and is particularly struggling in North America, where the high price is expected to hurt its standing in holiday sales.

A Sony spokesperson doesn't explicitly deny the report but calls it "rumor and speculation" and notes that information in confidential meetings can change. The company has nothing to reveal "at present," it adds.

    I will buy when...

I would like a PS3, but I won't buy one until the price drops since they no longer have the PS2 support.

I can always add a bigger hard drive, but I cannot shove a PS2 inside the thing. :(
