updated 01:40 pm EST, Mon November 24, 2008

New Nextar Q4 GPS units

Nextar recently added the Q4-01 and Q4-02 to its Q-series line-up of portable navigation devices. Both devices are simpler, less expensive versions of the previously unveiled Q4-MD that features MSN Direct access over wireless data networks. Both new devices have a 4.3-inch touchscreen and deliver voice-guided directions via their NAVTEQ maps.

The Q4-01 has mapping support for 50 US states along with 1.6 million points of interest, with the Q4-02 adding Canada and Puerto Rico maps and ups the POI count to six million. Both units will play back MP3 audio files and display digital JPEG photos stored on the included 4GB SD card, which also holds mapping information. A built-in lithium-ion battery powers the units. The included address book can store 300 entries, and users can pick from 2D or 3D view modes. A Night mode makes viewing directions at night easier on the eyes.

Nextar includes an AC and car power adapter with either unit, along with a USB cable, protective pouch, mounting cradle, dashboard mount disk, mounting bracket, the SD card, and a stylus. The Nextar Q4-01 is currently available, and priced at $299. The Q4-02 navigation system is priced at $399. [via Engadget]
