Moto Atila and QA30 spied

A couple of Monday reports have brought an update and a few photos of two new Motorola handsets, the previously previewed Atila and QA30. The former is billed as an iPhone competitor thanks to its 2.8-inch, 240x320 touchscreen and 3G data network support. The quad-band handset will reportedly use Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro. Photos of the Atila were revealed in a Hong Kong-based cellphone forum, though it should be noted that a custom iPhone-like interface is a third-party add-on that will not make it to the standard, production version of the handset.

The Atila will also reportedly promise to bring with it a Wi-Fi b/g module for network access and come powered by a Qualcomm 7201A chipset that gives it 7.2Mbps HSDPA support and 1.8Mbps uploads over HSUPA.

The other new handset, the MOTO QA30, is the company's first slider with a full QWERTY keyboard. The CDMA handset should be offered by Alltel when it launches, though it's not specified when that will be. Some of the handset's specs are known, however, and include a 2.5-inch display with a 320x240 resolution.

While not technically a smartphone due to the simpler operating system, the QA30 has most of the popular features, including a full HTML browser, e-mail and IM program support, Facebook access, as well as EVDO. Also integrated is a 2-megapixel camera and a microSDHC card slot that will support as much as 32GB. Users can also pair Bluetooth headphones or take the wired option thanks to a 3.5mm headset jack. No pricing or release information is known about the QA30. [via BGR and Unwired View]

    If they'd had come

out with these handsets a year or so ago, they would have had some chance of staving off Motorola's demise, but with the iPhone and Storm already in production, they don't stand a chance. A real pity.
