Apple updates FCP 6.05

Apple on Thursday released new updates to professional video and audio suites, including Final Cut Pro 6.05, Compressor 3.0.5, Color 1.0.3 and Shake 4.1.1. Apple says the Pro Applications Update 2008-04, a revision to Final Cut Studio 2.0. addresses general performance issues and improves overall stability. Final Cut Pro 6.0.5 addresses specific issues such as improved rendering of still images and footage in high-resolution formats and adding the ability to capture the additional metadata for footage recorded with the Panasonic AG-HMC150 professional AVCHD camcorder and the extended metadata that is available with P2 cards; the update also improves reliability when importing files from the Panasonic HDC-SD9 camcorder.

Compressor 3.0.5 fixes an issue in Mac OS X Leopard that caused existing QuickClusters to be removed when the Back to My Mac feature was enabled.

The other updates address specific customer issues and general performance issues and improves overall stability and Shake 4.1.1, Motion 3.0.2, and Soundtrack Pro 2.0.2, address "specific customer issues and general performance issues," while improving compatibility and overall stability. The free update requires an AppleID and a FCP serial number and is also available via the Mac OS X Software Update.

Finally, Color 1.03 also adds support for XDCAM 422 media and for the RED plug-ins for Final Cut Studio.

    Post-update error

When I installed the pro applications update it seemed to have corrupted the project file I had open previously. It said the file was "unable to be read or from a newer version". I moved it to a different folder and the problem was solved. (Other project files were opening fine.) If anyone else has trouble with this, then it must have been the update, if not I've got to hunt down the cause.
