Walmart iPhone on Dec. 28?
The new date for the launch of the iPhone at Walmart has been narrowed to December 28th, information suggests. The figure comes from a leaked internal memo, obtained in response to earlier reports explaining why the phone missed a predicted November 15th shipment. Additional sources say that some 2,500 Walmart stores will carry the device, along with 69 Sam's Club locations, the latter being owned by Walmart. This will leave about approximately 1,000 Walmart stores.
Training of Walmart workers is expected to begin on December 2nd, and at least some stores should be given live demo units, though not all. Phones are as usual set to be tied to a two-year AT&T contract, but speculation has held that the devices could cost even less than the $200 price offered through Apple, AT&T or Best Buy. Walmart is known for cutting margins to minimal levels, and a price drop could be necessary in a post-Christmas sales environment.
