MobileMe, Time Machine issues in testing for 10.5.6

MobileMe, T. Machine fixes

The next version of Mac OS X, v10.5.6, should address problems in MobileMe, Time Machine and Mail, a note to developers suggests. Supplied with the latest seed of v10.5.6, build 9G35, the note asks for help in testing automatic syncing with MobileMe, particularly in regards to performance on notebooks, and on networks with high lag or limited bandwidth. The aim is to have changes propagated from me.com to other devices in a "reasonable amount of time," and improve syncing performance in general. Apple asks for special attention to the possibility of excessive or abnormal syncs.

MobileMe is also said to contain an issue in which syncing may not occur should a person fail to open the preference pane while automatic syncing is turned on.

For Time Machine, Apple notes that v10.5.6 should improve the reliability of software, by means of changes to the AFP Client and Server. The client has been set to detect conditions which could corrupt a Time Machine image, and will now eject an AFP volume before an image can be affected.

Testing of Mail is said to be revolving around messages with different character sets, namely those without any Latin characters, such as Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic and Hebrew. Apple is, however, also aiming for testing of languages such as French, German and Italian.

    TIme Machine

How about an option "disable Time Machine animation effects to stop burning up my first generation Macbook Pro"?

Frankly, I'd rather have an extra entry added to the context menu... "History". Let me open any historic version of a file or folder from Time Machine, instead of having to sit through a "that's cool... the first time" animation.
