President-Elect Obama uncovered as Mac user

The United States' 44th President will be a Mac user, as President-Elect Barack Obama and his children have been revealed as having two MacBooks for personal use. Newsweek notes that Michelle Obama, the soon-to-be First Lady, recently purchased the two MacBooks so Barack and his two daughters can video-chat while he is on the road, something likely to be frequent in his new position.

9to5Mac also has a photo of a staffer relying on a MacBook Air on the campaign trail, suggesting that Macs are making an inroads into the positions of highest power in the US. Past presidential hopefuls Al Gore and John Kerry also use Macs, as do President George W. Bush and ex-President Bill Clinton; the latter two, however, have more typically been associated with PCs, if and when they use computers. Clinton is known to have sent only two e-mail messages while in office, and Bush is not known to have sent any.

Well using a Mac certainly didn't help Bush do a half way competent job so I am hoping Obama using a Mac doesn't have the same effect!

Yeah, but the article says Bush isn't known to have sent any emails, so he is unlikely to have used it much. So hopefully, the new Pres will do a better job in all sorts of areas.

ted kennedy's office also used predominantly mac computers from very early on, though kennedy himself like mccain doesn't use a computer.

Back in '92...

... there were stories of the old Selectric typewriters used by the George H.W. Bush administration being replaced by PowerBooks. That was back when the PowerBooks were new and their design and feature innovations hadn't yet been adopted by the rest of the industry.

That's an OWC On-the-Go FireWire solution connected to his Mac in that 2nd photo. How about that.
