OWC debuts 6GB kits for MacBook, MacBook Pro

Vendor Other World Computing says it is shipping new 4GB and 6GB RAM upgrade options for Apple's new unibody notebooks, in spite of alleged upgrade issues. The kits cover the 13-inch MacBooks and 15- or 17-inch MacBook Pros, and in the case of the 6GB bundles, are said to push memory capacity beyond what normal upgrade options allow. Apple normally limits maximum RAM capacity to 2x2GB, but it is possible to double memory in the second slot.

The 6GB upgrade kit costs $750, and includes one 2GB and one 4GB module. A 4GB upgrade costs $130, while a complete 4GB module costs $700. The 2GB module, by contrast, costs only $66. OWC is also continuing to offer kits for older pre-unibody MacBooks.

The announcement comes after Ramjet also unveiled a 6GB memory kit for the new unibody MacBooks and MacBook Pros.
