AT&T to allow iPhone tethering "soon"

ATT allows iPhone tethers

A new statement made by AT&T Mobility president and CEO Ralph De La Vega at the Web 2.0 summit has the company showing support for iPhone tethering - a hot topic as of late, considering Apple's banning of a utility that provides that functionality from the App Store. Technologizer reports that the move gives users an official path to explore, rather than relying on the now non-existent NetShare, or the contract-compromising iModem, the latter of which requires a jailbroken iPhone.

De La Vega gave no specific timeframe, other than saying tethering capabilities will arrive "soon." It is also uncertain whether AT&T will charge more for the service, with some estimates being between $50 and $60 for tethering alone.

The iPhone 3G's speed has also been an issue for some, with users looking to debunk Apple's claims that the device is not "twice as fast," as originally promised. Some are blaming the device, while others insist that 3G network speeds are not yet up to par.

    Unlimited Data?

I already have an "unlimited" data plan with my iPhone. It would sure be nice if AT&T allowed us to tether without an additional charge. Well... I can dream.
