Second AirPort Extreme roaming fix released

updated 10:55 am EDT, Mon October 27, 2008

Second AirPort roaming fix

Only days after the 2008-003 update, Apple is now seeding a second software patch for its AirPort Extreme router through Software Update. The 2008-004 release once again targets a problem with Intel Macs running Mac OS X 10.5.5, in which people had issues with AirPort connections while roaming in large Wi-Fi networks. Apple has not said what the 004 iteration changes, but it is likely a fix to unexpected implementation errors.

The download is 2.2MB and is currently listed only through Software Update, not Apple's support website. The 004 listing should be posted there within a day, based on Apple's past tendencies. A restart is required for the update to take effect.

    Tight-lipped Apple

I foolishly did the previous update without waiting a day or so and it killed AirPort on my iMac. I can't even turn it on. Fortunately, I don't need AirPort on that machine.

Apple should be a bit more open. Will this update fix the damage that update did?
