M-Audio unveils M-Tron Pro virtual instrument

M-Audio has unveiled the GForce M-Tron Pro virtual instrument that emulates sounds from classic synthesizers of the '60s and '70s, such as the Mellotron. The 3.5 GB sound library features over 200 sample sets, including 19 from the original M-Tron tape banks which were remastered at Abbey Road Studios in London. Over 700 patches and 45 brand-new tape banks have been included, along with editing controls and synthesizer parameter adjustments.

Each tape bank includes up to 35 notes that are each individually sampled, and can be operated simultaneously using a dual layer or split keyboard option. Users can play the software with any MIDI controller and program the CC response with a MIDI Learn function and filter aftertouch. M-Tron Pro for Mac or Windows works standalone or as a VST plug-in, and will be available later this year with a suggested price of $200.

Mellotron was not a Synth

I truly don't mean to be one of those annoying, nitpicking posters that we all hate but the Mellotron was, in fact, not a synthesizer. :)

It was actually more of a tape player with a keyboard. A Mellotron produced the sounds of the various instruments not by way of synthesis but rather by triggering the playback of tape recordings of the instruments.

It was sort of a pre-cursor to today's samplers and not a synthesizer at all.

Sorry again! :)
