MacSpeech Dictate 1.2 adds spelling mode, training

MacSpeech has introduced an update to its speech recognition software, MacSpeech Dictate 1.2. The latest version includes a spelling mode that allows users to dictate any specific word by verbalizing each letter to spell it out. The new Phase Training feature helps increase the accuracy of the program over time as it is used. As soon as a mistake is noticed in the dictation, the user can instantly train the application to correctly recognize the word or phrase.

A new feature has been added that allows the cursor to be controlled with verbal commands for vocal editing. The Dragon speech engine from Nuance runs the recognition capabilities. The program works with many common programs such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop, QuarkXPress, iChat, Apple Mail, iPhoto, and Keynote. MacSpeech Dictate 1.2 is priced at $200, including a noise canceling microphone headset, and requires Mac OS X 10.5.2 or greater, or 10.4.11.
