iPhone boosting devs, ads
The iPhone appears to be providing a significant boost to related mobile industries, involved parties claim. Andrew Fisher -- CEO of the company behind Shazam, an app which lets users identify songs through an iPhone's microphone -- notes that although his outfit is over four years old, prior to the iPhone 3G, people would only use earlier versions of Shazam three to five times per phone. The iPhone version of Shazam has been downloaded over 1.5 million times in 10 weeks, and has made over 20 million requests from Shazam's servers, equivalent to two or three song look-ups per person, per week.
Alistair Campbell of Truphone, a mobile VoIP telephony provider, claims that although his company has been operating since 2006, iPhone users now represent half of all Truphone clients. As a result, says the CTO, the company has decided to focus more of its efforts towards iPhone support.
The iPhone may also be providing aid to mobile advertisers, which have traditionally had a hard time convincing businesses that cellphone owners can be exploited. One such advertising firm, AdMob, reports that it pushed some 103 million ads on iPhone users in September, as compared to the 35 million delivered the month prior. Though this makes the iPhone only the fourth-ranked device at AdMob, it may reflect a boon to both the overall industry and that of the iPhone.

not everyone unhappy
All I ever hear is how unhappy developers are with the iPhone and if Apple doesn't change its ways no one will make apps of the phone anymore. I guess it's not as bad as some would make it out to be.
