Synchrotech adapters
Synchrtotech has introduced two new connectivity products, including a FireWire 800 to 400 adapter and a CFMulti CompactFlash Eye-Fi card. The FireWire adapter plugs into a nine-pin FW800 port and allows a six-pin FW400 device to be connected. The device will allow users of the new MacBook Pro to connect any FireWire 400 devices to their new Mac which now only offers a single FireWire 800 port. The adapter is shielded and is claimed to offer transfer rates up to 400Mbps.
The CFMulti allows most cameras that accept CompactFlash II cards to also work with Eye-Fi WiFi SD cards, enabling wireless transfer of photos. The card is also compatible with SDHC, SD, MMC +Plus, and MultiMediaCard formats that can be used instead of CompactFlash.
Users may experience a reduction in the WiFi range when using the adapter, but it will still work with Eye-Fi Home, Share, and Explore devices. The company notes that not every CF based camera supports the combination, but it has tested many devices including the Nikon D100, Canon Rebel XTi and EOS 20D, 30D, and 40D cameras.
The FireWire 400 to 800 adapter is available now for $9, while the CFMulti adapter can be purchased for $28.

reduce contacts
Avoid these adapters, because it will add 18 contact points (9 on each end) to the link. The added extrusion also makes damage likely. Use a FW800-to-FW400 cable instead.
