Magellan ships Maestro PND

The Magellan Maestro Elite 4370 portable navigation device is now available on the company's website. The long-awaited GPS, which was originally promised to make its debut during the first quarter of 2008, features a 4.3-inch color touchscreen and includes what appears to be a new interface, with 3D buildings and a lane guidance system. The interface also includes a OneTouch function that can save searches, such as a favorite chain store, fast food place, coffee shop or gas station, then show users the closest one to their location with just one button-press.

Thanks to its built-in microphone and Bluetooth support, users with compatible phones can make hands-free calls. Maps for the US, Canada and Puerto Rico are pre-loaded onto the unit. Live traffic reports will be sent to the 4370 with automatic rerouting once an accident or road closure has been identified. A Pedestrian mode is included for navigation optimized for walking. Street names and directions are spoken at each navigation point thanks to an FM transmitter that sends them to the car's sound system. AAA TourBook gives users access to the associations approved restaurants, garages and stores, while an AAA Roadside assistance listing is built into the six million points of interest for help in the event of a breakdown.

An integrated MP3 player lets users upload audio tracks to the 4370 via a USB port, with the built-in battery rated at 3 hours of life away from a car adapter.

The Magellan Elite 4370 is available now at Best Buy stores, priced at nearly $600. [via GPStracklog]
