CalDigit RAID systems

CalDigit has released the VR two drive RAID system and two new 12TB versions of its HDOne and HDPro lines of RAID storage devices. The VR is two drive RAID array that combines features of the FirewireVR and S2VR Duo, but in a new chassis. Connection options include Firewire 400/800, USB 2.0, and eSATA. RAID 0 and 1 modes are supported, with speeds claimed to reach 200MB per second. Software is provided that can be configured to send e-mail notification of drive problems or failures.

The HDOne features an eight drive array, configurable as RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, and JBOD. The company claims sustained data transfer speeds of up to 440MB per second using its proprietary ASTT technology and set to RAID 5. The drives connect directly via external PCIe instead of fibre channel. The HDOne also features an integrated Intel XScale processor and 256MB of fixed cache, with modular component construction to facilitate repair in the event of a malfunction.

The HDPro also features an eight drive array that can be set as RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, or JBOD, with speeds claimed to reach 440MB per second using external PCIe connections. The device is ready to be set up for Storage Area Networks (SANs) and includes RAID Shield software that can be set to send e-mail notifications to administrators if a problem arises and allows for management from any computer on the intranet.

Both the HDOne and HDPro storage solutions can be connected to laptops by using an optional eLane-1ex ExpressCard, claimed to offer transfer speeds up to 195MB per second. Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems are all supported on the three new devices. Pricing and availability dates were not provided by CalDigit.
