DVDO ships EDGE upscaler

Anchor Bay Technologies has begun shipping its DVDO EDGE video processor that upscales and deinterlaces signals to 1080p for HD home theater systems. The device offers six HDMI inputs, including one on the front panel for gaming consoles. Two HDMI outputs are provided, one for audio and video for connecting to an HDTV, and one that offers only audio signal for connecting to an A/V receiver.

The processing power is provided by Anchor Bay's Video Reference Series technologies, offering upscale of any input signal including satellite or over-the-air broadcasts. The Mosquito Noise Reduction feature is claimed to reduce compression artifacts in digitally compressed signals such as cable or Internet video.

The processor also offers edge and fine detail enhancements, and is said to improve quality of poorly processed signals by using progressive-scan reprocessing. The delay between audio and video signals is removed, offering a solution to actors' lips sometimes slipping out of sync with their voice. A full range of additional inputs are available for video and audio signals. The DVDO EDGE is shipping now to retailers, with a suggested price of $800.
