iBowl for iPhone

SGN has launched its latest iPhone sports simulation game, iBowl. The app uses the phone's accelerometer for input, allowing the user to swing the phone like a bowling ball. A "BOWL" button on the touch screen is pressed through the screen and released at the end. Wrist twist will put spin on the ball and control the direction.

iBowl is only the second game in a series of SGN apps, starting with the previous release of iGolf, that will used the iPhone's accelerometer for control input. iBowl is available for free from iTunes, with updates claimed to be offered by October 13th.

    Neat concept

Very neat concept, but seems a little dangerous given the history ($300 iPhone versus $20 Wii remote that is easily acquired).

If they can update the graphics to the level of Flick Bowling or 300 Bowl, they might have a huge hit.

    Just plain silly

"Wrist twist will put spin on the ball and control the direction."

Just make sure to call heads or tails when the iPhone goes sailing through the air.

bowling ball. I have to admit that those are really not state of art graphics. I wouldn't care as long as the physics of the balls feels good, but wow, how hard could it be to get a clean sphere. Most of the graphics on that game are blocky. I wouldn't rule out a game for that reason since it's game play that really matters to me. With the NDA removed and maybe a spate of programming books for the iPhone SDK, quality should improve all around.
