Mac, iPhone gain browser share at expense of others
The Mac has seen a significant jump in the representation of computers on the web, according to tracking figures from Net Applications. Site visitors browsing from a Mac are said to have amounted to 8.23 percent of the market in September, a rise from 7.86 percent in August. This marks the largest increase during the period, and may have come at the expense of Apple rival Microsoft, as well as several more marginal platforms.
Windows marketshare is currently at its lowest point in nearly a year, down to 90.29 percent from August's 90.66, and November 2007's high of 92.42 percent. Combined Linux share dropped by 0.02 percent in September to reach 0.91, and browsing from Sony PlayStation gaming systems fell a hundredth of a point to sit at 0.03 percent.
The iPhone is in fact the only major category aside from the Mac to have gained share, pushing from 0.30 percent to 0.32. The growth is likely attributable to the rapid spread of the device worldwide, now on the verge of selling in 50 countries.

"Mac, iPhone gain browser share at expense of others"
When ones share rises others fall obviously.
at the expense of others?
Is there any other way that Mac browser share could increase without something else decreasing?
Not Really
Of course when you look at share you are looking at %, so if one goes up, it normally is at the expense of others. The real important aspect is to see how it impacts it. Are iPhones and Macs replacing existing devices, or are they being added to the market.
The numbers shown here do not provide enough information to draw a conclusion.
no sh*t sherlock
and may have come at the expense of Apple rival Microsoft, Mac and iPhone browser share is up, and Microsoft browser share is down (and linux is almost unchanged) and the editors of macNN need a - "may have" - is it me, or did someone miss their logic for beginners lessons?
