Mitek application to let iPhone make check deposits
Mitek has announced that its ImageNet Mobile Deposit application (site down at press time) will be coming to the iPhone. The software is a mobile banking tool which allows banks to accept paper check deposits from users with camera-equipped mobile phones. To make a deposit, a user must open the application, type the deposit amount, and snap a photo of the front and back of the check.
The app then runs a few tests on the pictures to make sure they meet Check 21 image quality standards. Once the bank's system receives the deposit, it sends the customer a confirmation text message. No official release date has been published for the iPhone app, nor has a list of banks that will support it.

this seems like a broad avenue for fraud.

SIGN ME UP
No more ATM or teller lines.
You are small minded
Actually, guys, I use a scanner to deposit checks with my bank (USAA), and it's incredibly convenient. This sounds awesome to me.
sure.
besides old people and people without a clue... who actually uses checks these days?
last time i checked... it was 2008. get with the program.
it is becoming increasingly frequent that i notice more and more stores putting up "NO CHECKS" signs. about time. sorry cranky old people... it isn't 1904 anymore.
Paychecks
I'm a freelancer and get paid by check all the time. This sounds really intriguing. If not by iPhone, I'll look in to scanning. Why waste the gas going to the ATM when I can deposit them from my home office?
I love it!
I use USAA's Deposit @ Home feature with my scanner and love it --- this would even be handier. I hope USAA is looking at implementing this!
