HP 18-inch notebook launch

HP's newest notebook, featuring an 18.4-inch LCD with a 16:9 native aspect ratio, the HDX18t is now available for sale on the company's web store. The previously introduced entertainment notebook can be outfitted with a choice of five Intel Core 2 processors, ranging from a 2.26GHz chip in the basic configuration to a 2.8GHz dual-core CPU or 2.53GHz quad-core. The standard 2GB of RAM memory can be optioned up to 3GB or 4GB.

Thanks to NVIDIA's GeForce 9600M GT video graphics chipset a dedicated 512MB of video memory, the notebook can display 1920x1080 HD video, which is served up by its built-in Blu-ray drive or an optional HDTV tuner that comes complete with a remote control. Sound is delivered via four speakers and a subwoofer and an HDMI output is included. Expandability is served up via four USB ports, one of which doubles as an eSATA port, an ExpressCard slot, 5-in-1 media card readers and FireWire port. For wireless data transfer, an 802.11n Wi-Fi module is integrated as well.

The standard hard disk drive is a 250GB SATA unit, though buyers can upgrade to a 320GB drive, or pair each up for a total 500GB or 640GB capacity. Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit is standard fare, with a 64-bit version and Vista Ultimate 64-bit offered as options.

The HDX18t has a full-size keyboard and an 8-cell battery, with the total package weighing in at 9lbs. The base system is priced at $1,550. [via Laptoping]
