Report: mobile computers are now the majority

Mobile computers now account for the majority, according to a MetaFacts report. Their research found that 53 percent of computer-using adults were using mobile platforms including notebooks or tablets. Consumers have been accounting for a larger portion of overall use, accounting for 44 percent of the mobiles used more than forty hours per week. Large businesses represent 30 percent of the computers, while small and medium businesses, education, and government usage sits at 25 percent.

MetaFacts noted that 13 million American adults use a notebook or tablet for 40 or more hours a week, with 60 percent of those active users regularly moving between three or more PCs located at home, work, or public places.

"Mobile computing is a sport for the young" said Dan Ness, a company Analyst. Males between the ages of 18 and 34 fill 31 percent of the busiest users, while females in the same age bracket account for 23 percent. Males age 35 to 44 came in slightly behind the young females with 16 percent of the overall use.

Other observations from the Busy Mobiles Profile Report included the brands, with Dell being the most popular choice. For Apple, this demographic is a very strong segment. Over three quarters of these users spend more time with their PC than watching television, and the entire group runs ahead of the averages for purchasing and using other consumer electronics.
