QuarkXPress Server 8, more

Quark, the developer of QuarkXPress 8, has announced the upcoming release of several programs meant to support its flagship publishing tool. The first of these is Quark Publishing System 8, designed to manage the workflow associated with Quark files, specifically within the context of a corporate office. The updated software is said to include changes like support for native Illustrator file formats, and enhanced asset management through QPS Connect Client, which boasts functions like multi-page previews and multi-asset check-in.

QuarkCopyDesk 8 is the next version of Quark's picture and editing software, and is expected to imitate QuarkXPress' new interface, typography controls and OS-level drag-and-drop. QuarkXPress Server 8 should form the backbone of QPS systems, but has not had any details revealed. All three applications are expected to ship by the end of the year.

You do realize without Quark, Adobe would have a monopoly on the graphics market. You think their software is expensive now? Competition also encourages innovation (such as with apple and microsoft...they need each other). I'm glad Quark is getting their act together. We use Quark and indesign at work and after being an indesign fan for several years, I must say Quark 8 is a great product. I hope these upcoming products are just as good

Quark isn't all bad

They've made some great improvements in the last couple years. Yes, they still do some massively STUPID things and refuse to admit their faults, but overall their program can create some great projects. Adobe is going the direction that Quark was a few years ago being arrogant and stale at times. If they didn't have to compete with Quark, they certainly wouldn't put as much effort into creating a better product.
