Apple alerts customers of adapter recall via SMS
Last Friday, Apple announced that it was recalling faulty electrical adapters that shipped with the iPhone 3G. Apple is now sending out SMS text messages to to AT&T subscribers, warning them of the problem, according to a report. The close connection between Apple and AT&T has allowed Apple to communicate directly with a vast number of its customers.
In detail, the message alerts people of the exchange program for the faulty adapters, and provides a link for obtaining additional details.

Finally!
I found something I do not like about the iPhone.
With my RAZR - I never get messaging from Motorola. I do get an occasional alert from [cingular] ATT about this or that - but I've only had 1 or 2 in 3 years.
I think if Apple wants to do this - that it should be an OPT-IN service and they should otherwise leave the Alert Messaging to ATT and merely post statements to their website and/ or issue a news alert.
I wonder if this is in th fine print for the iPhone itself - that Apple reserves the right to send you whatever they want to - in addition to your respective Service Provider?
yeah right
So you'd prefer to burn to death and receive an important safety notification from Apple. I don't know about the USA, but here in the UK it would be illegal NOT to do this - use every possible mechanism to contact customers to ensure their safety.
dumb Yanks
ITs a safty recall notice not a ad. Should be no opt in required.
