Intego/LaCie partnership

A new partnership has been formed that will see Intego's backup software included with all of LaCie's new storage devices. Intego will be providing two backup programs, Backup Assistant and Backup Manager Pro, both derived from Personal Backup X5. Assistant will be included with all LaCie hard drives and some of its network storage devices, and Manager Pro will be provided with LaCie’s professional network storage devices.

Both programs are tools for specifically for Mac OS X. Assistant can back up files to hard disks and network storage devices, while Manager Pro can make backups to any hard drive, network volume, iDisk, optical disc or iPod. Pro is also capable of making bootable backups of a Mac OS X startup volume, and syncing data between two computers.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever touched one of those software CDs that comes with a hard drive or monitor? Does anyone NOT use OS default software to access and manage external hard drives and monitors? Is this a total waste of time and money for Lacie?

I have a 1TB firewire 800 drive and a 1 TB NAS from LaCie and tried their backup software. It was super-simple-minded and kludgy. I can do better with AppleScript. So I think Intego could easily be an improvement at least on the Mac side. I'm still using my trusty ChronoSync that I bought years ago. LaCie's drives seem very well priced right now. LaCie probably pays between little and nothing for the bundling and Intego gets exposure.
