Adobe debuts CS4

Adobe on Monday unveiled Creative Suite 4, a major update to its collection of graphical editing tools that offers users enhanced performance, new and improved tools, as well as improved interoperability for apps in the suite. In addition, the release marks Photoshop CS4's entry into taking advantage of the GPU for drawing with tools and effects, as well as the application of filters and zooming.

Among the offerings are Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design, Web, Production Premium, and Master Collection. The release also encompasses 13 individual products, 14 integrated technologies, and seven services, such as access to Adobe ConnectNow.

    I'll pass

Hey Adobe, why not fix your existing software before delivering yet another incremental update. Why should we have to pay for bug fixes. I'll pass on CS4 and re-evaluate for CS5 when hopefully a 64-bit Photoshop finally makes it over to Mac.

    may as well upgrade

You may as well upgrade... Adobe will make sure you pay the same amount in the end anyway to upgrade from CS3.

    So

How much of the GPU goodness exists in the 32 bit, Carbon Mac version? I'll bet somewhere between 0% and, oh, 0%.

    probably 100%

@dimmer, according to the the Photoshop product manager you underestimated by 100%, and on his MacBook Pro which is 2 years old.http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2008/09/photoshopgpua.html

    Great...

Now everyone will be clamoring for CS4 because they "have to have it." "I will not rest until I have the most up-to-date copy of software. If I don't, my productivity will go down. I need CS4 NOW!!!!" I wonder if Adobe is trying to see how many people will shell out more money just to have the latest. Probably.

    Man

Can't make anyone happy. They don't put out a release for a while, they get slammed for being behind the times. They put out a release 'quickly', and they get slammed as well.

I have no idea why anyone is upset by this. Software is software. If what you have works for you, there is NO reason to upgrade, so don't worry about it. If they FORCED the upgrade on you, saying your licenses to CS3 would become dead at the end of the year. You know, like what MS does to its business customers and all.

    Fixed Indesign CS3??

Let's hope they fixed the stitching and placed art output issues in Indesign CS3 that plagued - and CONTINUE to plague - my job. Ever since CS3 came out it's been trial and error in getting decent press quality PDFs to come out.

    well testudo...

...if you actually used this suite professionally, you'd know that what they need is to streamline/stabilize/improve the existing version, before they start charging for new features.

all in all, the creative suite is a great set of tools. but those of us who use it daily are more qualified to comment on its development/upgrade cycle.

but since you are an expert only on commenting randomly about areas in which you have no business opening your mouth, i guess we can expect this to continue from you.

    Monopolizing

We all know its not native to apple/MAC OSX and here we go again paying outta our nozes for a non optimized (code) version for mac osx.

Im sick of paying for a program upgrade that seems to be a mess on the HDD and with all the bugs in the mac version im going to wait this one out and hope other prgrams start coming on strong i.e pixelmator, they got a heck of a long way to go but at least its in the correct direction.

Adobe simply needs to make its shareholders happy...again!
Im not biting this time ;)
