Acer to intro netbooks

Acer President and CEO Gianfranco Lanci indicated at the company's global conference held in Budapest, Hungary that Acer will launch more netbooks to join its Aspire one range, as per a Friday report. The company, which bought PC maker Gateway last year, will also launch a Gateway-branded netbook, Lanci indicated. While details on either are not known, it is possible the new Aspire ones will have a screen larger than the current offering's 8.9-inch screen.

Other interesting pieces of information revealed about Acer's future at the conference included the announcement that a 3G module equipped Aspire one will be available this October, while a WiMAX version will come in 2009. No prices were announced for either model.

The company also unveiled its plans to launch a mobile Internet device and smart phone as early as 2009. All that's known is the Internet tablet device would likely use Intel's Atom platform.
