Steve Jobs ranks #61 on Forbes 400 Richest Americans

Apple CEO Steve Jobs now ranks No. 61 on the latest Forbes 400 list of wealthiest people in America. Every member of the ranks has a net worth of at least $1.3 billion. Although Jobs fell slightly from his No. 56 spot last year, he has gained significantly since 2006 where he sat at No. 132. His net worth has held steady at $5.7 billion for the past few years.

In its 2007 short biography, Forbes referenced Jobs as an "igod" and "tech superstar" but talked of an "iFlop" for Apple TV because of the NBC pullout. NBC just recently hopped back on board with Apple, the iPhone has been a success story for the company, and iTunes is more powerful than ever.

In line with most recent news about Jobs, however, Forbes starts off with mention of his health appearance and the concern expressed by shareholders worried that his pancreatic cancer has returned. Steve's rise to wealth has been a unique progression, founding Apple Computers in 1976 in his garage just to be fired less than ten years later because of conflicts over leadership.

He bought Pixar for $10 million, rode with it through the successes of movies like Toy Story, then sold it to Disney for a stake now worth over 400 times what he paid. Since returning to Apple in 1996 he has been part of iPod, iPhone, iTunes, and other advances, all while maintaining a rare CEO celebrity status amongst Mac enthusiasts and becoming a household name across an even wider group.
