MFT 5.3 adds new features

Synium Software has released its MacFamilyTree 5.3 public beta, giving users a first look at improvements like Virtual Globe's Events list, improved search with multiple search strings, new family bookmarks and optional downscaling of RAW photos. The new beta features new WebKit-based Reports, with interactive customizations of Person, Kinship and Distinctive Persons Reports, Lists for Places, Events and Birthdays. Also updated in the new version are a rewritten Kinship Report, improved quick navigation labels and better handling of date format inconsistencies.

MacFamilyTree requires Mac OS X 10.4.9 and Safari 3.0 or newer. The software can be purchased (currently, version 5.2.6) for $50, and the public beta period is expected to continue into early October. Owners of MacFamilyTree v.4 or higher get a free upgrade to the final v.5.3.

    wow

I knew mac-fanatics were fanatics, but keep track of all their macs, where they are now, when they were bought and died. That is kinda going overboard.

Actually it is a genealogy programme for people. I suppose one could use it for Mac computers. I may try that. Suppose I could substitute motherbard failure for a death?
Seriously, the new beta update is worse in respect ot two features that the previous version which made errors.
The basic data goes in OK and is displayed in the Person and Family pages correctly . Not so the Virtual Family Tree and the Kinship Reports.
Kinship reports report the children of wife 2 of a divorcee as the children of wife a, whom he divorced and by whom he has no issue. The error is worse about a my grandmothers second marriage and to a man for whom this was also a second marriage.
In the case of the grandson of my gran's second marriage, it gives him as a partner a woman who is actually the widow of my brother. A right messthat has already caused some upsets.

On Virtual Family tree, a 3D display, the beta now show as the children of the second marriage, not two females but a female and a male. The male is in fact the person who is the son of a cousin of the man whose children the two girls are.
I emphasise all the links were correctly made in the data input and are so revealed in the basic screens.

I am sure. Did not download bought a CD. Only then downloaded upgrades.
As said info all appears as entered correctly per Family and Person pages and some others but not the Kinship reports or the VFT. All marriages (eg for divorcee, closed by divorce note or death.
MFT database created by GEDCOM from Reunion, and Reunion and Heredis do not show such errors in reports and displays.
