Canon Digital ELPHs update

Canon on Wednesday continued with its digital camera announcements with the release of its PowerShot SD990 IS and PowerShot SD880 IS Digital ELPH cameras. Bringing features such as Optical Image Stabilization using the company's new DIGIC 4 image processor, the style-conscious cameras deliver significantly improved signal processing speed and higher image quality. According to Canon, the PowerShot SD990 IS Digital ELPH camera delivers 14.7-megapixel resolution, a 3.7x Optical Zoom with Optical Image Stabilization and Canon's new Quick Shot Mode for faster shutter speed, while the PowerShot SD880 IS Digital ELPH camera features 10-megapixel resolution and 4x wide-angle Optical Zoom with Optical Image Stabilization.

The SD990 will be available in black or silver along with a limited-edition Red Digital ELPH Camera designed to help commemorate the manufacture of the 100 millionth PowerShot camera (exclusively at the Canon U.S.A. eStore ), while the successor to Canon's PowerShot SD870 IS Digital ELPH camera, the PowerShot SD880 will be available in two-toned body colors of black and silver or gold and brown and features four large and distinctive convex buttons on the right side of the large 3.0-inch PureColor LCD II screen for easier camera operation and menu navigation.

Canon also said that the LCD screen's contrast ratio has been greatly improved for more accurate color and viewing from any angle and that both cameras feature Servo AF technology that delivers continuous focus tracking for moving subjects.

Scheduled to be available in October, the Canon PowerShot SD990 IS Digital ELPH and PowerShot SD880 IS Digital ELPH cameras will be $400 and $300, respectively. Each will include a memory card, battery, charger, wrist strap, USB and A/V interface cables, Canon Digital Solutions Software CD, and a one-year limited warranty.
