BlackBerry Storm video, anti-iPhone docs show

BBerry Storm Video

Verizon is now known to be circulating a video and materials briefing its employees on the upcoming BlackBerry Storm that also single out the iPhone 3G as the direct competitor. The two-minute spot confirms the features of the device, which include its hybrid CDMA/GSM and 3G support, a high-resolution touchscreen with direct "click" feedback, Visual Voice Mail and a 3.2-megapixel camera. The segment also confirms Verizon's US exclusivity for the Storm, which is believed to be matched by a similar Vodafone deal in Europe.

A question and answer document appearing at the same time as the video also makes evident Verizon's intent to market the first touchscreen BlackBerry as an alternative to the iPhone. While most of the one-page sheet only touches superficially on the key features of the device, the cell carrier devotes a large portion of the document to a side-by-side comparison that paints the Storm in a favorable light through ancillary features such as the turn-by-turn GPS navigation, MMS support and removable batteries as well as storage.

The provider has taken on a succession of touchscreen-focused devices over the past year, such as the LG Voyager and Samsung Glyde, but to date has generally avoided direct comparisons between these and Apple's handsets.

As with earlier internal documents, Verizon is careful not to mention a release date or price and suggests these will only be made available later. One recent leak hints at the release being delayed multiple weeks and pushing the Storm to mid-November.

    It's the Network

You know, I'm sure this is a nice phone all and all, but once Verizon cripples some of it's prime features as Verizon always seems to do, it'll just be another hunk of junk. Of course (as verizon as indicated) the iPhone really has no impact on people leaving Verizon.
