Texas PC recycling law takes effect

Texas PC Recycling Law

Texas has begun enforcing a new law that requires all computer manufacturers in the state to offer a free recycling program for most of their systems. Called the Computer Equipment Recycling Program, the plan mandates that PC makers offering same-brand computers, displays, and input let customers easily ship out or take in computers to have them processed regardless of whether or not the bundle was made after the law took effect.

Major computer makers are already signed up as participating in the program and include Texas-based Dell as well as Apple, HP, and multiple major and independent vendors. Several companies that typically only sell handhelds or other non-traditional computers in the US are also included, such as Samsung.

Recycling programs have already been voluntarily implemented on a national level by most of these companies but are rarely required by law.

And in more advanced countries, lay say Denmark, they have recycling centers, have had them for years, where anybody can dump their electrical equipment (including computers) for free, and where it is taken care of in a manner which does not pollute the environment.

But every small faltering step helps i suppose.
