NEC intros four projectors

NEC on Wednesday introduced new entrly-level LCD projectors to add to its NP line, including the NP400, NP500, NP500W and NP600. The new products feature 1024x768 native resolution, with the NP500W upping it to 1280x800. All four are meant for use in classrooms, during meetings and training sessions thanks to their Ethernet network connections, closed captioning systems and a comparatively loud built-in 7-watt speaker.

The lamps used in the nearly identical looking units are the main difference between them, with the NP400 rated at 2,500 lumens of brightness, the NP500 an NP500W at 3,000 and NP600 at 3,500. The contrast ratio for all is fixed at 500:1. To assist with set up of each projector in rooms of different shapes and sizes, automatic vertical keystone correction good for up to 30 degrees is an integrated feature.

Connections common to the foursome comprise of a DVI-I connector that double as either an analog or digital RGB input, S-video and RCA inputs. The DVI connection will also power the projector on when it detects a signal sent from a source. Audio RCAs are the same ones users would use for video, and a stereo jack acts as an output as well. NEC's Virtual Remote with DDC/CI allows remote control from a network-connected PC.

Security systems include a bar and Kensignton lock slot to allow users to lock the projectors to fixed objects.

The NP400, NP500, NP600 and NP500W will ship in October, priced at $899, $1099, $1499 and $999, respectively.
