Cubase 4.5 adds VST Sound, Sequel 2 compatibility

Cubase 4.5 released

Steinberg has released v4.5 of Cubase, its professional music production suite. Much of the focus in the new edition lies with hardware, as the software now directly supports the company's MR816 X and CSX decks, as well as the CC121 controller. Yamaha support has meanwhile been expanded to include the MOTIF-RACK XS, MOTIF XS6/7/8, and several KX-series USB keyboards.

Purely software-based features focus on VST Sound, which is replacing SoundFrame and should enable use of more third-party instruments and plug-ins through the MediaBay management tool. Steinberg has also added support for its Sequel 2 composition and performance software, and released VST Sound Collection Vol. 1, a 1.5GB library. Cubase 4.5 costs $600 new, and runs on systems with CoreAudio-ready sound hardware, a 1GHz processor, and Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
